Specialist Charity Unit

If you are responsible for a charity’s pension scheme then you have a particularly challenging set of complex and often conflicting objectives. Amongst those you will wish to:-

  • Do all you can to use limited resources effectively and efficiently
  • Put in place robust governance frameworks, to manage scheme risk and personal risk of individuals on the trustee board
  • Rationalise inefficient processes, to save time and money
  • Open-up communication channels, to speed-up decision making
  • Co-ordinate professional advisers to minimise duplication of effort and ensure accountable value is being delivered at all times
  • Engender a collegiate, teamwork approach to manage conflict and bring about a sense of calm, common purpose
  • Harmonise scheme funding negotiations
  • Seek and find value for money every step of the way

At PTL, we understand the constraints that charities have and what they want.  This is because we have dealt with a number of charities over a number of years.

Our guiding principle is to secure the members’ benefits as quickly as possible at the least cost to the sponsor. This is a common objective for the trustees, the employer and the members. In other words, the pensions objective is a team effort.

We will be working especially hard to achieving open and transparent lines of communication between the trustees and the sponsor, as this above all else will impact positively on the smooth running of a scheme, particularly when addressing potentially contentious issues such as funding.

Our Specialist Charity Unit is led by Melanie Cusack, Client Director who has extensive experience with a range of schemes in this sector. The Unit has been established to provide special services to charities as a consequence of the valuable insight we have gained through our work with them, including the Macmillan Cancer Support Pension Scheme.

In operational terms, we have simply taken our open, pragmatic, unfussy approach and turned it into a solid platform onto which we have built a range of specially-tailored services.
