Trustees' Professional Advisors

The trustees are responsible for running the pension scheme, and call on professional advisors to assist them.

Actuaries

In broad terms an actuary is required for all final salary (defined benefit) occupational pension schemes. The actuary works out whether there are sufficient assets in the scheme to cover all scheme liabilities, and in ongoing schemes advises on the employer's contribution rate.

Auditors

An auditor checks the scheme's annual accounts and certifies that they show a true and fair view of the scheme's finances over the period, and for ongoing schemes, that all the contributions due have been paid.

Investment Managers

The trustees appoint investment managers to manage the investment of scheme assets.

Independent Legal Advisors

The trustees will seek independent legal advice where they feel it is appropriate to do so. Where PTL is an independent trustee, we seek legal advice on substantial or contentious issues from a panel of independent law firms.

"Whistleblowing"

All professional advisers (together with trustees, employers and administrators) have the responsibility of whistleblowing to the Pensions Regulator if they believe any laws have been broken in respect of the scheme.

Regulatory Bodies

There are a number of regulatory bodies that aim to protect the benefits of pension scheme members. For more details on these please refer to Regulatory Bodies and the links page.

We have built up good working relationships with a number of firms offering the services mentioned above. In addition, we have experience of working with regulatory bodies such as the Pensions Regulator, TPAS and the Pensions Ombudsman in seeking satisfactory solutions to scheme specific problems.
