Pitmans Trustees Limited (PTL): Note to the Press: Wedgwood case

Richard Butcher, Managing Director of PTL, a leading independent trustee and governance services provider, said in relation to the Wedgwood case:

 "Wedgwood have the same problem as many employers that chose to sponsor a defined benefit (DB) scheme. They are fortunate that they have an asset that they can release to improve their position. Many don't. While it is obviously sad that the collection may be broken up or move overseas, the emotion shouldn't get in the way of commercial need in this case."

This comment follows a high court ruling that the Wedgwood Museum collection could be sold to pay off a pension deficit.
